Shadowbans on X
What is a shadowban on X (Twitter)?
A restriction that hides your account or posts from people who do not follow you, without notifying you. X calls it visibility filtering. FSB tests the four common kinds: search ban, search suggestion ban, ghost ban and reply deboosting. Full explanation.
Does X really shadowban accounts?
X does not use the word, but its own enforcement policy says it can limit the reach of posts and accounts instead of removing them ("freedom of speech, not freedom of reach"). Some of those limits are labelled on the post; many are not. The effects are observable from a logged-out view, which is what FSB measures.
How do I know if I am shadowbanned?
Look at your account logged out. Your own logged-in view always shows your posts. The fastest way is a live check on FSB, which runs all four tests from a logged-out view. Manual method.
How long does a shadowban last?
X does not publish durations. Most restrictions we see are temporary and lift within days to two weeks once the trigger stops. Repeating the trigger keeps them in place. More detail.
How do I get rid of a shadowban?
Find out which restriction you have, stop the behaviour that likely triggered it (automation, bursts of replies, repeated links or hashtags), complete and verify your profile, and re-check after 48–72 hours. Step-by-step plan.
Can someone get me shadowbanned by reporting me?
Reports are one of the strongest negative signals in X's ranking, so a wave of reports can contribute to filtering. A single report from one person is unlikely to restrict a healthy account on its own.
Does X Premium (blue check) prevent shadowbans?
No. Premium accounts get prioritized ranking in replies and search, and FSB regularly finds restrictions on verified accounts. It can make deboosting less likely, not impossible.
My reach dropped but all tests are clean. Why?
Then it is ranking, not a restriction: posting time, topic, format, links (which X ranks lower), or simply fewer people engaging. Read how the X algorithm ranks posts.
What is the sensitive media flag?
A marker on your account or media that puts a warning in front of your content for many viewers and can hide your posts from their search. It is often a setting you can turn off yourself. How to check and fix it.
Using FSB
Is FSB free?
Yes. Checks are free. Guests can browse profiles for 15 minutes a day; signing in with Discord or X removes that limit and adds a dashboard, favourites and alerts. The site shows small, closable ads to pay for servers.
Do I need to give FSB my X password?
Never. FSB checks public data from a logged-out view and needs no password and no X app permissions. If you choose to sign in with X, it uses X's own sign-in page and only asks to read your public profile.
Can I check someone else's account?
Yes. Any public account can be checked by handle, profile link or numeric user ID. FSB only uses information anyone can see logged out.
Why does FSB say a check is limited right now?
Every live check sends requests to X, so FSB caps how many it runs per minute to stay reliable. When the cap is reached, recently checked accounts show their last confirmed result and new accounts can be checked a minute later.
What is the visibility score?
100 means all four tests are clean. Each detected restriction takes 25 points off, and the sensitive-media flag takes off 10 (5 when restrictions are also present). It is a quick summary; the four individual results are what matter.
How often are accounts re-checked?
Accounts on the global board and in dashboards are re-checked automatically, more often while someone is viewing them. Each result is added to the account's history graph.
What does the guest time limit count?
Time spent viewing profiles while signed out, about 15 minutes per day, reset at your local midnight. Guides, FAQ and other pages do not count.
Why am I asked to sign in on a VPN?
Guest access is disabled over VPNs, proxies and data-centre networks because they are used to scrape the site. Signing in with Discord or X works from any network.
Can I get a share image of my result?
Yes. On a profile, open Share to download, copy or post the status card. The same image appears automatically when you post the profile link on X, Discord or Slack.
Can I show my status on my website or link-in-bio?
Yes, with the live status badge: a small SVG that always shows the latest result for your account.
Accuracy and data
How accurate is FSB?
Each test returns detected, clear or unknown. A new restriction is re-tested before it is shown, a failed request never overwrites a confirmed result, and hiding caused only by sensitive-content filters is not reported as a search ban. No external checker can see X's internal flags directly; FSB measures their visible effects.
Where does FSB get its data?
From X's public web data seen logged out, cross-checked against open-source embed services such as FixTweet and vxTwitter. Official counts take priority over third-party copies.
Why do results sometimes differ from other checkers?
Many checkers run one request and report whatever comes back, so a single error on X becomes a false shadowban. Others report sensitive-content filtering as a search ban. FSB separates those cases.
Is there an API?
Yes, a free JSON API:
visiuun.com/fsb/?api={username}, rate-limited per IP. See the API documentation. What does FSB store about me?
For checked accounts: the public profile data and test results. For signed-in users: the account you signed in with and your preferences. Guest time limits use a device cookie and network information that expire within days. Details in the privacy policy.
Can I remove my account from the global board?
The board lists public accounts that were checked. If you want yours removed, contact @visiuun on X from that account.
Is FSB affiliated with X?
No. FSB is an independent tool made by Visiuun. X and Twitter are trademarks of X Corp.
