Guides / How long it lasts

How long does a shadowban last on X?

X does not publish durations. What we observe: most restrictions are temporary and lift within days once the trigger stops, while repeated triggers make them last longer.

X does not say how long a visibility restriction lasts, and there is no countdown. What we can say comes from watching accounts over time: FSB re-checks accounts on its board every day and keeps a history of each restriction.

What we observe

  • Most restrictions are temporary. They tend to lift within a few days to two weeks after the behaviour that triggered them stops.
  • Repeated triggers extend them. Accounts that keep doing the same thing (bursts of replies, repeated links) stay restricted, or the restriction comes back quickly.
  • The sensitive-media flag is different. It is a classification, not a penalty. It stays until the setting is changed or X re-evaluates the account.
  • Labels on single posts are permanent for that post unless an appeal succeeds.

How to shorten it

  1. Identify the restriction with a live check.
  2. Stop the likely trigger (see how to fix a shadowban).
  3. Keep posting normally. Going silent does not reset anything, and normal activity gives the filters good signals to re-evaluate.
  4. Re-check every few days. Sign in to have FSB do it automatically and keep the history.
