X search ban: why your posts do not show up in search

When your posts are missing from search even for an exact from: query, you have a search ban. What causes it, how to test it and how it differs from SafeSearch.

A search ban means your posts are excluded from X search for other people. The posts still exist, your followers still see them in the timeline, and links to them still work. They just do not come up when someone searches, even for an exact phrase or from:yourhandle.

How FSB tests it

FSB searches for recent posts from the account from a logged-out view and checks whether they are returned. Because X's own sensitive-content filtering can hide posts from search too, FSB separates the two: a post hidden only because it is marked sensitive is reported as the sensitive flag, not as a search ban.

Common causes

  • Spam-like activity: posting the same text, links or hashtags repeatedly.
  • Many reports or blocks in a short period.
  • Accounts that are new, unverified or have an empty profile.
  • Media marked sensitive, combined with viewers who hide sensitive content (this looks like a search ban but is a setting).

How to recover

Follow the recovery plan: pause automation, stop repeating content, complete the profile, verify email and phone, and re-check in 48–72 hours.

Search ban vs. low reach

If your posts do appear in search but get few views, you are not search banned. Reach is ranking, not filtering. Read how the X algorithm ranks posts.
